Week 2 Thursday, September 10

Class: Zoom Break out rooms to look at Line Project / Introduction to CSS / Workshop: Point to line continued: sewn text (words of protest and reform, exhibition: Threadlines)

Assignment: Introduction to CSS - create index page using Adobe Brackets / Line Project
Resources: WC3 schools: HTML and WC3 CSS tutorial (HTML: Layout, file paths, CSS: syntax, how to, backgrounds)

 

Week 3 Thursday, September 17

Due: index page / Line Images / 10 NYtimes

Class: Critique and Discussion of Line Project / Intro All the News That is Fit to Print (screening Sarah Charlesworth, Aleksandra Mir, Adrian Piper, Rikirit Tirivanija, Lorraine O’Grady, Michalis Pilcher, and more)
Workshop: techniques ( adding -sharpie and gouache, extracting (exacto), commenting and highlighting (highlighter and sharpies), alternative materials (oil, wax, etc).

CSS tutorial continued (text, webfonts, color, margin and padding, height and width, nav bar, box model, positioning align, and more)

Assignment: CSS continued - creating projects and writing pages / begin developing ideas and methods for Project 2: All the News That is Fit to Print prepare at least 3 options for next week

Reading Assigned: Listen to "The Last Newspaper: Artist in Conversation Sarah Charlesworth, Aleksandra Mir, and Nate Lowman" Three artists engage in a discussion about their use (and abuse) of the daily newspaper in their art practices, as well as the importance of the newspaper in their daily lives. Please take notes and include on website. How does this influence your individual project? In a statement regarding your project please include quotes and reference to this interview. Post in Writing section of your website.

Assign Reading: Color Goes Electric, May 31, 2016 by Claire Lehmann for Triple Canopy magazine. AND Color excerpts from Cabinet magazine see pdf here or individual links: cyan, khaki, pink, mauve, beige, ultramarine, black, sulphur , in addition if you search Cabinet Magazine for "colors" you can choose your own color reading. Use these readings to influence writing about the color in your image. Choose one image AFTER reading to write about!
